Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet

This is a two in one detox diet that flushes toxins out of your body, while at the same time helps you lose weight. This diet is to be followed for durations of two, seven or twenty-one days at a time. Of course, if you choose, you can repeat this diet on a regular basis just like the lemonade diet which some people keep following continuously.
The Martha’s Vineyard Detox Diet – What is it about?
The author of “21 Pounds in 21 Days: The Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox”, Roni DeLuz, ND works as a licensed naturopathic at Martha's Vineyard Holistic Retreat. This retreat promotes natural therapy to uplift physical as well as psychological health. DeLuz herself has struggled with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia; this explains her interest in detoxification. The Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet promoted by DeLuz is centered around fruit and vegetable juices and purees, broths made out of vegetable and herbal teas. These are fortified with vitamin and herbal add-ons and enzymes that guide digestion to nourish the body during the cleansing process. The reason for the 21 day duration for this diet is, it’s believed that it takes the body 21 days to cleanse out all the toxins present in the major organs.
The Martha’s Vineyard Detox Diet – What to eat, when to eat?
Dieters following this program have three options to choose from:
1. A two day plan
2. A seven day tune-up plan
3. A full detox plan lasting for 21 days
You’d have to follow the same daily routine for all three plans. The ideal schedule is –
8.30 AM: Breakfast consisting of strong berry drink that has antioxidant qualities. This is a herbal drink with cleansing properties. This is followed by a cup of hot herbal tea and eight ounces of distilled water.
10.30 AM: Eight ounces of water, eight ounces of warm or cold herbal tea.
12.30PM: Lunch –One cup of home made fresh vegetable juice or a green drink prepared from herbal powder. This is followed by another eight ounces of water, more cleansing drink and an enzyme tablet in capsule form.
2.30 PM: This will be a repeat of 10.30’s intake
4.30 PM: Strong antioxidant or berry drink
6 PM: Dinner – Soup prepared at home with cleansing properties, one cup of broth, herbal tea, more of the special cleansing formula, 8 ounces of water again and enzyme capsule.
7.30 PM: Choice of eight ounces of water or herbal tea
Bedtime: Aloe vera supplement

What else does this plan advocate?
Dieters following the Martha’s Vineyard Detox are also advised to get colon cleansing, coffee enemas, cleaning body wraps and lymph massages to enable effective flush out of toxins from the body. This issue is however, a debated one since colonics are expensive as they have to be executed by a medical practitioner. Coffee enemas are not so expensive, but they are not favored by many people. DeLuz recommends coffee enemas as she feels they are a good way to flush toxins out of the liver.
DeLuz further clarifies that these options are not mandatory though they are good. You can choose to substitute these steps by increasing your water intake or using a cleansing formula made of herbs.
The need for such steps arises from the low level of fibers in the Marta’s Vineyard Detox Diet. Fibers are very important to help the colon rinse out naturally. If the body doesn’t receive sufficient bulk fiber, you’ll have to resort to other means to get the waste out of the body.
Followers of this plan are also advised to do some physical activity every day- either walking a mile each day or bouncing on a trampoline for 20 minutes. It’s also recommended for dieters following the 21-day plan to have a colonic and one coffee enema each week. The two and seven day version of this detox diet allow followers to omit the colonic, but the coffee enema is seen as an important part of the diet plan to help in the detoxification process.
Advantages and disadvantages in Martha’s Vineyard Detox Diet
This diet has its own pros and cons; some people feel there are some major problems in this plan, while others feel it’s good. The short term mini cleanses are considered better as they provide lots of nutrients and water and makes the dieter feel fresh after the course. And if your usual diet consists of a lot of canned food, sweets and caffeine, there’s nothing like this diet to bring in some energy to your body. The plan makes you eat something every two hours; this keeps your blood sugar level steady and you won’t feel tired easily.
The 21 day plan, on the other hand has been at the receiving end of a lot of criticism. Firstly, this diet lacks in protein in fiber that are required for normal body functions. This diet also recommends various dietary supplements that not many can afford to buy.
While on the surface, The Martha’s Vineyard Detox Diet seems like a
perfect solution to detoxification, there are certain factors to consider before
adopting this diet. Consider the fact that this diet advocates eating a strictly
liquid diet consisting of soups, juices and supplements for 21 days. It’s best
to consult your doctor and check if you require this full-time cleansing program
and whether your body will accept such a diet.
